Description
Chicken the Great
Chicken gyro and shawarma belong to the different cultures of the Levant. Therefore, there are minute differences between these two delicious meals. First of all, shawarma meat is marinated for longer hours to keep it juicy and flavored. Furthermore, gyro meat is sometimes served with tzatziki, also a Mediterranean taste. However, their looks are almost the same, and they generally have common ingredients, which are explained below.
The principal feature of preparing chicken gyro and shawarma is to stack them on a vertical spit and cook the meat by rotating in front of the fire. This will let the meat cook with its water and fat while protecting it from the smell of burned fat on a fire. When the meat gains a roasted brown juicy color and has a tender texture, the cook carves small thin strips. It is served between a pita with lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles.
